Discovering Black Rock on a 6-Day Mergui Archipelago Dive Cruise

Pascal, Patricia and Bertrand from France, Qiao and Mingkun from China, James from Canada, Thomas and Andreas from the US, Engin from Turkey, and Joachim from Germany were on board for this cruise.

Everybody had a great time on board, with some fantastic dives and plenty of incredible marine life to discover along the way.

A new itinerary and a day at Black Rock

We were back in the Mergui Archipelago for a 6-day trip, and this time we decided to change our itinerary and offer our guests the chance to dive at the famous Black Rock!

Getting there required quite a bit of navigation, so a big thank you to our captain, who did a lot of work to get us there and gave us the opportunity to enjoy an amazing day of diving at this remote Myanmar dive site.

And Black Rock certainly didn’t disappoint. We had manta rays, eagle rays, stonefish, huge schools of trevally, beautiful nudibranchs, and so many different species of shrimps and crabs during the night dive.

It was one of those days when there was always something to look at, whether you were scanning the blue for larger pelagic visitors or slowing down to search the reef for tiny creatures. The variety of marine life made every dive feel different.

It’s always a pleasure to see these amazing creatures swimming in the blue, as if they were flying. So graceful and beautiful, manta rays are undoubtedly among the most impressive encounters you can have while diving in the Andaman Sea.

Small creatures and a memorable night dive

Black Rock wasn’t only about the big animals. The night dive brought out a whole different side of the reef, with an incredible variety of small marine life. We encountered numerous species of shrimps and crabs, while beautiful nudibranchs added plenty of colour to the reefs.

During the daytime dives, the huge schools of trevally created a spectacular backdrop, while eagle rays and stonefish provided some very different encounters. It’s this combination of large pelagics, schooling fish and tiny reef creatures that makes diving in the Mergui Archipelago so rewarding.

After another great day of diving, it was time to head on with the cruise, but Black Rock had certainly given everyone plenty to remember.
