Diving from the Surin Islands to Richelieu Rock: An Unforgettable Liveaboard Trip
Yes, I know, you’re going to tell me that I should be more original, but what a trip! We were literally spoilt from the Surin Islands to Richelieu Rock, via Koh Bon and Koh Tachai. There were no just “nice” dives, only awesome ones!
I don’t know where to start, actually! Let’s introduce the people on board… We were happy to welcome back Jeppe and Will, who were already with us on the previous Burmese cruise, along with Aurélie, Aurélien, Alena, Richard, Robert, Cameron, Yuki, and Sophia.
It was a fantastic group for a memorable Thailand liveaboard diving adventure, exploring some of the Andaman Sea’s most famous dive sites.
Peaceful Encounters in the Surin Islands
The first day in the Surin Islands was peaceful and away from the crowds! We enjoyed great visibility, flat water, and fun currents. There were lots of fish, black and white-tip sharks, an eagle ray, beautiful corals, and some lovely drift dives. We ended a great day with a quiet night dive in South Surin Bay.

Manta Magic at Koh Bon
The second day started with a beautiful dive at Koh Bon Pinnacle. It was absolutely full of fish! And then, in the middle of the dive, a huge eagle ray appeared from the deep and played around, getting closer and closer. It was already something special…
But the second dive on the North Ridge… Manta ray day!

Not to forget, we also spotted an enormous marbled ray resting on the seabed!

What could be better after this? Maybe some dolphins joining us for the ride!

Having Koh Tachai to Ourselves
We headed to Koh Tachai and the best news was that we were completely alone, and that is true luxury! Koh Tachai is one of the most fantastic dive sites around the Similan Islands. There were fish everywhere and astonishing corals…

The Wonderful Aquarium of Richelieu Rock
Our last day—and what a day it was. It started out not so well, as we were not sure we would be able to join the dive site due to the weather conditions. But with our fantastic captain, no problem! It was challenging at the surface and breathtaking underwater. The best way to describe it: a wonderful aquarium, alive and free!

We had some very interesting encounters there! Including Harlequin shrimps…

…and ghost pipefishes!!!

We saw plenty of other nice ones along the way too!

Special congratulations to Sophia, who, at just thirteen years old, dived like a pro!

And thanks to this great group for such a nice trip!
