Thailand Liveaboard Diving: Surin, Richelieu Rock, Koh Tachai and Koh Bon
We welcomed a full boat of 16 guests from Russia, England, America, Canada, Slovenia, Switzerland and Australia for four days of diving and 14 dives across some of the most exciting dive sites in Thailand’s Andaman Sea.
Day 1: Diving in Surin National Park
We started the trip with the beautiful dive sites of Surin National Park. The underwater scenery was full of life, with juvenile shaded batfish, a huge Jenkins’ whipray and impressive Napoleon wrasses.
Among the smaller highlights was a cute Tectacerа, the tiny nudibranch often nicknamed the Pikachu nudibranch. These colourful little sea slugs are always a favourite with underwater photographers and macro lovers.

Day 2: Four Dives at Richelieu Rock
The second day of diving was wonderful, with four dives at the stunning Richelieu Rock, as always.
There was plenty to keep us busy throughout the dives, including ghostpipefish, seahorses, ribbon eels and harlequin shrimps. We also spotted a zebra moray and a peacock mantis shrimp, while huge clouds of glassfish and schooling fish filled the water around the rock.

Days 3 and 4: Koh Tachai and Koh Bon
From Richelieu Rock, we headed towards the Similan National Park to explore the incredible dive sites of Tachai Pinnacle and Koh Bon.
The diving brought another great selection of encounters. We saw blacktip reef sharks, three octopuses mating, a huge school of barracuda, pregnant lobsters and schools of batfish.
These dives were a fitting way to finish four days of diving, with encounters ranging from tiny macro subjects to large schools of fish and reef predators.

Thank you for choosing The Smiling Seahorse, and we hope to see you again soon, either above or underwater 🙂
One Response
This was one of the best liveaboards we have had the pleasure of going on and we have been all over the world diving at least 30 liveaboards. Thanks Frank and team for an epic trip.
