Two Whale Sharks at Once: An Incredible Mergui Archipelago Liveaboard Cruise
We had a BIG surprise this week: not one, but two whale sharks on this cruise — and they were both with us at the same time!
For this incredible cruise in the Mergui Archipelago, we welcomed on board Dominique, Matthieu, Carole, Pascal and Patricia from France; Xiao from China; Natasha and Justin from Hong Kong; Duncan from England; and Stefan, Nadine and Joshua from Switzerland.
A Double Whale Shark Encounter
Seeing a whale shark is always a memorable moment when diving in Myanmar, but having two of these magnificent animals appear together was an especially spectacular surprise for our divers.
The cruise quickly turned into a real shark week, with plenty of other marine life making an appearance during our dives. After the excitement of the whale sharks, our lucky divers even had some nurse sharks coming to say hello.
A Turtle Joins the Dive
The sharks were certainly not the only stars of the week. A beautiful turtle also made an appearance, swimming alongside our team underwater.
Small Creatures: Seahorse, Frogfish, Pygmy Squid and Ghost Pipefish
And of course, our divers also had plenty of fun looking for the smaller creatures. Alongside the big animals, we found a seahorse, a frogfish, a pygmy squid and a ghost pipefish.
These encounters are a great reminder of the incredible variety of marine life found beneath the surface of the Andaman Sea, where spectacular pelagic encounters can happen on the same cruise as fascinating macro discoveries.
Happy Divers Above and Below the Surface
With whale sharks, nurse sharks, turtles and plenty of fascinating smaller creatures, our divers certainly had plenty to smile about underwater!
And the fun continued at the surface, with the group enjoying time together between dives and exploring the spectacular surroundings of the Mergui Archipelago.
A Special Birthday Celebration on Board
This trip was also a little bit special because we celebrated Dominique’s birthday!
With a James Bond and James Bond’s Girls style celebration, it was certainly a birthday to remember. Happy birthday again, Dominique!
